Gas Company Migrates SAP Apps Off Oracle and Onto DB2 on Power
Upper Silesian Gas Company, part of the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) group, has migrated key SAP applications from Oracle database to a workload optimized system running IBM DB2 software on Power systems, IBM reports. As a result, the company has lowered its licensing and maintenance costs by double-digits and has slashed the amount of time it takes to back up critical business data by 50 percent.
IBM and SAP in Poland collaborated to help Upper Silesian Gas Company migrate nine key SAP applications from Oracle to DB2 on Power including ERP, Business Intelligence, and SAP Solution Manager. IBM says the unique data compression capabilities of DB2 helped the company boost SAP application performance and minimize the amount of disk space needed to store data by 50 to 85 percent.
"IBM and SAP made our migration from Oracle to DB2 on Power easy," notes Jaroslaw Wrobel, vice-president of Upper Silesian Gas Company, Deputy General Director for Economic Affairs. "Using DB2 allows us to integrate our business processes and improve the flow of information to deliver higher value capabilities across our company today and in the future."
