One is about Watson tech for use in other industries than game shows, and the other is about Ersi migrating to IBM Power Systems for PowerVM for SAP applications. Turkish Conglomerate Taps Power Systems for IT Infrastructure

Zorlu Group, a leading Turkish conglomerate that produces everything from yarn to LCD televisions, is turning to IBM to manage its increasingly complex and expanding IT infrastructure. A new multi-million dollar, seven-year agreement, which was signed in March, 2011, calls for IBM to manage Zorlu's server infrastructure, networks, and manufacturing software using Power Systems, among other technology. This new agreement follows a five-year services contract between the two companies.

Slovak Academy of Science Selects Power Systems for Supercomputing Project

IBM has announced that the Slovak Academy of Science has chosen Power Systems technology to launch a high-performance computing project in Slovakia. Working with local business partner DATALAN, IBM will provide a 96 teraflop supercomputer based on IBM’s Power 775 and 755 systems and DS5300 storage.

Server Shipments, Revenue, and POWER All Rise Modestly in Third Quarter

Worldwide server revenue increased around 5 percent in the third quarter of 2011, according to similar reports from Gartner and IDC. According to Gartner, revenue came in at 5.2 percent while IDC reported 4.2 percent. For shipments, Gartner sees a 7 percent increase while IDC noted a unit shipment increase of 4 percent.

The new software offering uses content analytics optimized to run on Power Systems. Seton Healthcare Family is the first client to adopt and use the technology, called IBM Content and Predictive Analytics for Healthcare. Seton intends to focus the new content and predictive analytics solution on the root causes of hospital readmissions and ways it can decrease preventable multiple hospital visits.
